Achenbach Foundation, Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco – Department of Prints & Drawings



The Intern will help with the preparation, classifcation, and cataloging of a large collection (3,000 planned scope of any specifc projects: volumes) of rare books and artists’ books. He/she will receive training in the handling and care of rare books and artworks. Some research tasks may also be assigned. The Intern will examine books thoroughly and make notations on condition and notable features. He/she will work directly with the curator, collection specialist, registrar, and conservators on a daily basis. He/she work in one of the nation’s premier collections of work on paper, located at the Legion of Honor museum, one of two museums comprising the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the other being the M.H. de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park. Exposure to behind-the-scenes work that goes on at the museums, including the work of exhibition curators, registrars, and preparators.
